My Favorite Things #4

Scarves!

I recently crocheted this scarf out of some beauuutiful hand spun yarn I splurged on. The picture does not do it justice. The scarf is so soft and fluffy, it feels like marshmallow and I think I love it as much as I love marshmallows. (I'm really hungry as I'm typing this, as my sweetie swiped my lunch from the house this morning, leaving me with nothing but an orange for school. Aargh.) Anywho, I love scarves. All I want to do is snuggle myself up in them. Soon I will have that opportunity, as I will be out of Florida and off into a land where the temperature drops belong 70 degrees. I'm crossing my fingers that there will be no unusually warm weather out West this year. It better bebone chilling must wear a scarf at all times cold.

The Cat in the Lap

Some days Izzy is under the distinct impression that she should have priority over all other things. In this case, I was not doing anything important, but in most instances I am futilely attempting to complete school work. There is nothing more frustrating than a kitty paw dangling on the mouse pad or space bar, making difficult work of typing notes.

If only it got cold in Florida

I've been lusting after a pair of fingerless gloves off of etsy for months now. Unfortunately I cannot justify spending $30+ on gloves when I live in Florida and will have little opportunity to wear them. Instead I crocheted myself a pair and spent around $3 doing so. Now I just need a reason to wear them. Since it's 80 degrees out right now, I don't suppose I'll get a chance anytime soon. Nevertheless, these will be useful when I'm in Santa Fe in December.

I will be so happy when I'm finished with law school. Then I can move back out of Florida. I'm going to need to move someplace frigid in order to offset the heat that I have to tolerate while living here. Maybe Alaska or Montana. Soon very very soon.

Whole Patches of Pumpkins

Here are the results of the pumpkin carving extravaganza. Naturally, mine is a kitty pumpkin. It's a good thing I'm married or I would truly deserve the title of Crazy Cat Lady.

Mums the word

In preparation for the upcoming birthday festivities at my house, my sugarplums and I did a little planting over the weekend. I love mums, they make me want to wear scarves, drink hot apple cider, and carve pumpkins. On that note, I still need to pick up a pumpkin. I missed out on carving last year, but I won't let that happen again. Maybe this year I won't burn the pumpkin seeds. Maybe.

Vote Isabel Rose for the Cutest Kitty Ever. . .or at least the Cutest Devil Kitty Ever.

Please go vote 5 stars for the Meowser. She has been very depressed at the notion that other kitties could possibly be considered cuter than her. You can vote here: http://animal-pictures.petsmart.com/thumbnails.php?album=34

Edit: I am having some difficulty with the links to the photo. . .so if the above link doesn't get you to the right place, search for Isabel Rose. Thanks!

Ranting Part 2

I thought my previous rant was complete, but that was until things got worse. So let me finish. Part of the copper wire was stolen from my other house, so that none of the outlets in the basement work and neither does the stove. The water pipes burst not in one, but in three places, including behind the shower wall. Oh and I came home tonight to find that the air conditioning in my new house is not working. Its a balmy 83 degrees and its the cool part of the day. Tomorrow afternoon should be fun.

But I guess I should be happy, in a few days I'll probably be posting about the leak in the roof and how the transmission or clutch in the car is shot out.

Please let there be no leak and let our cars run properly. Please. Pretty pretty please.

Cuteness

Ranting

Today was one of those days where things just do not go right. The snooze on the alarm didn't work, I nearly tripped over my own flip flop when it came off my foot at an unfortunate time, I hit somebody with a door, the store I went to at 10:30 was closed even though they open at 10, Oz tried to escape out the front door into the night, my other house won't sell, it has a broken water pipe, a washed out drive, and up until a few hours ago, a five foot snake living in it. Oh, and despite the multiple phone calls and visits I have made to the financial aid office at school, my loans are still fucked. There is still 1/2 hour left of the day, maybe I should go to sleep now and avoid any other mishaps which may occur.

On the bright side though, my roses are blooming, the kitties are napping, and tomorrow I can sleep in.

Sorry for the rant, but sometimes a girl just needs to get it out there.

Mushroom Love

Had dinner with my sugarplums tonight. It will be the last night I get to have some alone time with him for a little while, as he is venturing off to Georgia in a week to relist our "mountain vacation home" with a realtor. Fingers crossed that it will sell this time. Hopefully I will just lose my shirt in the deal and not my shirt and my pants and my shoes. . .

We started the meal off with a deee-licious portobello tapas, that the table next to us sent to our table. They were passing on the mushroom love and it was greatly appreciated.

Ahoy

“A ship in harbor is safe — but that is not what ships are for.”

I have read this quote before, but for some reason I read it again today and it is resonating with me.

Blue

I really want to be outside today with my camera, but instead I am inside with textbooks. One week back into school and I am already sick of textbooks and case law. Sometimes I worry law school is the wrong path to be on. Understandably, in order to accomplish certain goals, sacrifices must be made, but I have to wonder if this goal is worth it. Maybe I would be happiest doing something less "prestigious," whatever that means. Hmmm. I don't suppose I will receive some miraculous sign that will address these doubts of mine. A sign would certainly make life easier, too bad they only occur in books and movies and such.

Yawn

This is how I feel. Could somebody please provide me with a 1 way ticket to someplace that is not here. I am bored and restless and I desperately need to get away. Preferably to someplace cold, where they have sweet tea and cornbread, but no bigots, and the average age does not hover around 65.

Guilt

I knew when I brought a new kitty home that inevitably I would feel some guilt and regret for invading Izzy's space with another kitty. She has growled, hissed, and sulked. Last night out of nowhere, when Larry bent down to rub her belly, she attacked. Don't get me wrong, Izzy is a fiesty kitty, but last night she went crazy.

The new kitty, Oz, is locked up in his "safe room" until Izzy adjusts. I gave him a bunch of toys, that Izzy has always refused to play with. If the stuffed mice don't make noise, she wants nothing to do with them and jingly balls bore her. I figured that was safe. I didn't want her to get jealous over what he had in his room. Unfortunately one of the jingly balls ended up by the door and Izzy has parked herself outside that door, peering under trying to get a handle on what is lurking on the other side. She saw the ball and was not happy. Then with a little shaking paw she tried to get it out from under the door. That is what broke my heart. My little Izzy-plums paw shaking. I feel so very guilty.

As I type this though, Izzy has come over and is sprawled on my lap, purring, demanding belly rubs. She must not hate me too much.

Introducing Oz Moses

This is Oz Moses. (Moses is a tentative middle name; I still need approval from his daddy.) Oz is still getting adjusted to the house. Right now he will only venture from the desk chair to the bed and back again. Usually while in pursuit of a hot pink jingly ball. He likes to make tiny meowing noises that sound more like a baby bird than a kitty. He thinks his big sister is a meanie, but is not scared of her growling. He can take her. Like most men he is mistaken.

I have a new kitty. . .

I've been looking for a pal for the Izzy girl for a few weeks and finally found a handsome little boy to take home to her. His name is Oz, but Larry calls him Ozzy. So I was hoping Ozzy and Izzy would be great pals, but the meowser takes after her mommy and can be a little bit of a b@#&h. So for the moment, Oz is sequestered to the spare bedroom where he can be comfy and away from a growling Izzy-plums. Hopefully in a few weeks, they will be getting along or at the very least be tolerant of each other. I'm crossing my fingers and my toes.

Pictures will be coming soon!
